Just wanted to put my experience in... I called VMWare last week due to an issue with some LUNs not automatically mounting after a reboot. It turned out that vSphere thought they were snapshot...
Right, that's my understanding. I haven't done performance testing with Writeback on vs. writeback off, because I've only used it in an HA failover environment. The recommendation is to have...
I've used both DSS v5 and v6 (now in SCST mode) with Autofailover and vSphere 4.0. I'm using Jumbo frames and File I/O mode in DSS. There are some tweaks posted in this thread that fellow forum...
Well, my experience hasn't been all that confidence-inspiring. See this post, for example:

I have a very similar setup to what you have; two boxes...
Just be aware that autofailover does have its limitations.
- the best practice for DSS software updates is to shut down the failover service (which drops all iSCSI connectivity and means you will...
In my experience, the key is spindles. It's easy to get terabytes of storage very cheaply now, but if you don't have the iops to keep up with your workload, then all of that space is wasted. I would...
Create your bond interfaces first. In my setup, I have Bond0 for iSCSI traffic, Bond1 for replication, and Bond2 for management. When you set up your bond interface, use ip addresses on the same...

Like I said earlier, support sent me a patch file which I haven't had the downtime to implement yet. I'll try to get that done this weekend.
Symm, thanks for the info. How do you find out what these error messages refer to?
I looked a little deeper and found that our RAID controller (3ware 9690SA) does a scheduled verify every night at...
Support sent me a patch file, which I believe is an update to SCST (version 1.0.1.1). I have not actually implemented the patch due to the necessity of shutting down all of my VM's to do the upgrade....
Sorry, just to answer the other questions:
What about iETD vs SCST? SCST
Writeback caching? Off due to the iSCSI failover replication
Bonding? Yes, using bonding on both iSCSI channel and...
Hi, just wanted to jump in on this thread... I've got two vSphere 4.0 hosts and two DSS v6 boxes running in an iSCSI failover configuration. I used the defaults out of the box but this weekend played...
Can you provide some more detailed information as to how your networking is set up? For example, do you have a vswitch set up just for the vkernel iscsi? Does it have two physical ports of your...
I got this on one of my DSS units (configured for iSCSI failover). I basically lost web access to the unit after this error occurred, attempted to reboot via console, and was unable to do that (it...
That looks very similar to an error we got a few weeks ago. I recommend you open a ticket with support and have them look at the logs.
Just FYI: the bond statistics are available in version 6. We have six physical interfaces with three bonds, and the graph page goes like this:
Bond0
Bond1
Bond2
Eth0
Eth1
Eth2
Eth3
I'm pretty sure the maximum LUN size that ESX can see is 2 tb. You will need to carve up your 3.7 tb into multiple LUNs.
