1) Directories in the root of the share.
2) Each directory should be owned by one user of the domain.
3) Permissions set accordingly - full access for user and domain admin, nothing for everyone for directory and all children.
4) I can still access any file in the directories with a any user account, while the effective permissions show that no one else should have access.
Can you update to the latest version NAS-R3_ver_5_0_up47_build_3200. Before updating please save your settings in MAINTENANCE -> miscellaneous -> Function: Save settings. Then select all the options.
Once rebooting set the ACL permissions for the users and groups from the GUI CONFIGURATION -> NAS resources -> Function: ACL (Access control list). Also from the Domain server go to the share and then access the properties and then set from the security tab and check to see if the everyone group has access or uncheck and test. Additionally links below might be of some help.
Im a bit afraid of th upgrade, as the release notes say at the end:
"VERITAS backup agent works only with old VERITAS Backup Exec up to version 10. It does not work with SYMANTEC Backup Exec."
And: Im using Symantec Backup Exec 11.5d currently. Any idea when this issue will be fixed?
You can try the following settings it has worked with Symantec Backup Exec 11d
We configured the NAS in Windows (PDC)
The Backup agent was set to none. When enabled we ran in to problems backing up data on the NAS.
Not sure if this is required but we made the Backup Exec service account a superuser
We configured the Backup Exec service account full access to the share that needs to be backed-up.
On the backup server:
We used the Backup Selection option
We Browsed the Domain
We Browsed from the Domain to the NAS server
We Browsed on the NAS to the share
We created several data backup sets to create policies and jobs
We found that for this NAS we had to select :
Allow use of any available network interface, subnet, or protocol for remote agenets not bound to the above network interface, subnet, or protocol.
I currently do not have an ETA for Symantec Backup Exec 11.5d
