small volume in large unit

Hello all,

Last week I added some disks to an existing raid array. The hardware controller added the new space to an existing volume, so it went from 740 to 3500 GB.
In volume manager, dss shows this unit S02 with 3500GB "in use" for vg01, but when I open the volume manager of this volume group, it only sees the old logical volume (lv0100, size 740GB) but no free space, so I can not add a new logical volume on this unit.
I don't see why it fails to see the free space, while it does recognize the correct size of the unit.
