Authenticating AFP, SMB, NFS from NIS

Hi,

I would ideally like to use my Sun NIS password database to authenticate on the
Open-E NAS for NFS, SMB & AFP.
I have tried various combinations of Open-E settings but none of them work for all protocols.

If I use remote NIS authentication alone then NFS works but SMB & AFS do not authenticate
even if the use SMB is set in the NIS config.

If I use internal LDAP & synchronise my NIS UID/GID then NFS works & SMB partly works but not AFS. In this case I loose my NIS passwords & have to get the users to enter their passwords in the NAS again - not nice for many users.

I can't seem to get AFP to user authenticate at all.

Any ideas what the best strategy is?
