Vmalloc vs. physical RAM
Hi,
I am using the latest Demo-CD and I am wondering how the available Vmalloc sizes relate to the installed physical RAM?
I have two servers that have 4 and 5 GB of physical RAM. When I startup DSS via the Demo CD, Vmalloc is selected automatically and any attempt to change it fails.
The ranges for Vmalloc spawn from 256 to 384 on both systems. Does this mean that Vmalloc kan never be higher than 384 MB?
Another question is, do I understand correctly that the volume replication, which is what Vmalloc is needed for, has a total of max. 4 GB, or does this limit apply to each individual lv?
Thanks,
Stephan

Vmalloc 384 MB size is the default that we have related to the Volume Replication relate to the installed physical memory.
The Demo-CD version for Vmalloc is set for 384 only, sorry for this feature not available but does work on the DSS professional versions where this can be changed and set higher to 448.
The maximum Logical Volume size to be used with Volume Replication is 4TB. In future releases we will increase this but no set date as of yet.

Hi Todd,
thanks, for clarifying this to me. I was pretty sure, that I'd be able to set Vmalloc 448, but I am still unsure, what this means for my DSS. Will I be able to have multiple volumes of 4TB with volume replication or will it be only one?
Thanks,
budy

You can have many 4TB iSCSI Logical Volumes with the this feature and you will be ok with the 384.

thanks a ton.
