iSCSI Performance Expectations

I'm pretty new to iSCSI and thus I'm trying to determine performance expectations. I have read that there are many factors which influence performance. I have an IBM server with 3ghz pentium d, 2gb ram, raid controller with 4x500gb hds. I achieve local disk access of 126MB for sequential writes. I haven't really tested read access yet. With DSS iSCSI I seem to get about 45MB writes. The nic is a Broadcom integrated nic. I tried an intel dual port PCIe PT card and that seemed to perform worse. Can anyone comment on how fast writes should be give this limited info.
