Best practise: Speed for Volume replication

Hi folks,

i have 2 DSS6, connected with a cross-over-cable at 1GBit for volume replication.

The storage is accessed from 3 XenServer, each with 2x1GB Multipath.

I tested the write performance and got 1GBit, which first got me into thinking, but i understood, the it is a synchronous replication, so the bottleneck in this test was my 1GBit replication connection.

Is it a goog idea, to dedicate 2 NICs, each 1GBit, bonded, to volume replication? Or is it a problem?

You can have 2 NICs for Volume Replication if needing some path failover but all you really need is 1 NIC and it can be directly connected to the other DSS V6 - this saves on the ports on the switch as well. The bond wont provide better performance with the Volume Replication.

if you need more speed for replication, you should look into 10GBE. But after the initial sync, 1GBE is pretty good.
