Unit Status Unknown

I recently added another logical disk to my already in use raid array. As this logical disk existed on a different machine before, the raid controller picked it up as a foreign configuration and after doing a restore it picked up the disk as normal.

The problem now is that in Volume Manager the new Unit S001 has a status of Unknown and I'm unable to do anything with it. Ideally if possible I would like to keep the data that is currently on there but this might not be possible. Either way, at the moment, I cannot create a new Volume Group using that unit and under H/W Raid I cannot remove the LD either as it says "Can't remove drive, that is in volume group.".

I suspect that the issue might be that the Volume Group name for Unit S001 is the same as the Volume Group name for Unit S000.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It might be that the unit was there first and placed itself back to original order, if you want to delete it so to free it up from the RAID controller to be used again (though you are right that the data will most likely not be there) you can go to the Extended tools from the Console Screen enter CTRL ALT X and select the last option Delete contents of Units then restart the system and the unit will ready to delete from the controller.
