S.M.A.R.T. info using vSphere?

Hello, our company just started using vSphere. We are testing out Open-E as our SAN solution. Right now we have open-e as a VM on the ESXi server and wanted to know if it was possible to get the S.M.A.R.T. information of the virtual drive or can you only view this option when open-e is your base OS?

Yes this is based on the SATA controller or drives not in a RAID or are directly connected to the motherboard.
