Switching replication direction on Consistent Volumes

Hi,

I undestrand that clearing metadata will force a full volume replication from the source to the destination, which is what you need to do when the destination has inconsistent data.

My question is: if both Volumes are consistent and I just want to switch the direction of the replication, is it possible to just delete the tasks and switch the modes on both sides, then recreate the taks in the oposite direction without clearing metadata to avoid a full innecessary replication? or do I always have to clear metadata when switching modes/direction even if the volumes are consistent?
