Troubleshooting Open-E DSS V7 + VMWare Issues

We are trying to troubleshoot slow I/O on our setup. We are running two Open-E storage nodes with 6x1TB RAID10 HDDs in each, connected to two VMWare hypervisors. The performance is about twice as fast using only one storage node with one hypervisor. Using round robin with iops set to 1 is unexpectedly slow. We are using port bonding between the storage nodes and hypervisors at 4GigE each, and 2GigE between the storage nodes for active-active. RAID cards on the storage nodes are LSI 9271-8iCC and 9266-8i (with CacheCade added). The performance is slow regardless of whether we use the SSD caching or just the HDDs.

Any ideas?
