I created about 6 shares that are working fine for me.
If I type \\dss I can see all my shares, no problems.
But once in a while, approximately once per week all
my shares suddenly gone. If I type \\dss I can only
see 1 line:
- Printers and Faxes
If reboot the DSS then all shares are back.
What could be the reason? Which log-file I should check first
in order to find what causes that?

Check the error and critical logs. What version of DSS are you running?
The version is 1.32. I think that this problem occurs when I create new shares or modify existing shares or enable NFS on a share. I understand that I have to reset SMB, but it seems that reset SMB is not enough. Rebooting the DSS does help.
Anyway, I'm going to keep an eye on it and if I have more info I'll post it here.

Try running the Repair File system from Extended tools - CTRL + ALT + X in Console screen.
