We are going to be putting together a new Open-E box and I just wanted an opinion on raid cards. We have an Areca card now but it has caused us a few problems, so for this unit we are looking at an Adaptec 3085, LSI 8888ELP, and 3Ware 9690SA. We are looking for both integration into Open-E as well as preformace.
Could you describe the issues you had with the Areca controller?
I am considering the controller for my next Open-E SAN.
Some of the problems I had was I am using one of the newer cards and at the time the Driver that Open-E used would not allow the web tools to work from inside Open-E (this has now been fixed) on of the larger problems I have had is adding additional Volume Groups to Open-E. When I expand a volume group it works okay but if I make a new Disk set in Areca it does not show up, once I reboot it works. I tested with an older LSI card and had no problem.
Have you pushed "rescan" button in the Volume Manager ?
Yes, I have done that.
We are using Areca Controllers, too.
Can you describe the error more exactly.
