Hello,
i want to set up a Window Enterprise 2008 2-Node-Cluster. The Quorum/Witness-Disk is on a DSS-V6.
The Windows cluster validation reports the following error:
"Storage does not support SCSI page 83h VPD descriptors for cluster disc X"
Can you help me?

I also want to use V6 for Win2008-Cluster in near future ... Has anyone successfully finished the cluster validation? Is it official supported?

I have the same problem as Jens. I use W2008R2 though.
Open-E website says it is supported, but it just doesn't work.
I have sent logfiles to support today, hope they figure out why.

I hope you fix this issue, because we just sent our customer who uses win2008 one of the open-e boxes.
YES, please fix it soon, we're waiting for Win2k8 support for over 10 months ... our new hardware (2 Win cluster nodes and 2 DSS boxes) are growing old ... :(

I just spoke to techsupport in Germany.
I have sent the logs earlier this week.
The support person told me not to create 'bond' interfaces but connect to the iSCSI directory on the Fysical interface something like eth0. Those are the interfaces where the default IP numbers are on like: 192.168.0.220 and 192.168.1.220
I have not tested it yet, but perhaps it will help someone else.
I will probably test it tonight, the result will be posted here.

BTW, I am on the SCST mailing list (SCST is what open-e uses for iscsi and fibre channel targets), and it looks like Vlad, the main SCST developer, has done a short review of the persistent reservation code code that open-e's engineers submitted. Most of his comments are regarding coding style improvements (ie not using // comments), but he had some architectural improvements' too. This makes SCST the only linux iscsi target that works with Win 2008 clustering, unless LIO has made considerable progress. This means that it might draw more developers into developing SCST. So, there are improvements in the works!
Our customer was getting first :
"Failed to Register PR key for cluster disk"
so we upgraded to DSS V6 and now he's getting:
"Storage does not support SCSI page 83h VPD descriptors for cluster disk "
I've advised to remove bondig on eth ports and see how it goes, but I can't sey that customer is happy about this.

I don't know about anyone else, but this is a huge dealbreaker for me. My plan is to cluster my Hyper-V Servers and I can't do that until this is resolved. Unless this is resolved I'm going to be forced to purchase a Dell or Equallogic SAN for twice the money, which is something I DON'T want to do!
I am using the DSS v6 trial, will be purchasing the upgrade shortly. Windows Server 2008 (& R2) clustering works fine, the only 'warning' now being presented is about the SCSI device Vital Product Data (VPD), I assume this functionality is being worked on currently? Could we have an update from the team pertaining to how this is going please?
Ignore previous message, if you are trying to do a Hyper-V based cluster with Cluster Shared Volumes, it does not appear to work, a guess time-line is now needed please open-e...

Thanks for putting all your work into CuppaT, you are doing exactly what I am planning to do! Your results are exactly what I was afraid of.
No worries, cphastings, I am now running a full HA Hyper-V cluster, but (and it is a big but) I have not been able to go down the preferred route of CSV's.
I hope it won't be long before someone from open-e updates this thread with some info on the last remaining issue to be ironed out...

Without CSV, Hyper-V R2 is almost the same as the useless Hyper-V. No live migration....no talk.....
Do you guys install core for all the Hyper-V R2 nodes or just pure Hyper-V Server R2?
Well, as soon as this is fixed and I deploy R2 I will be running Server Core R2 Enterprise, because it gives you 4 free virtual licenses of Enterprise Server to run under Hyper-V.

hi guys, do you all use the default server mpanagement tool or System Center Operation Manager + System Center Virtual Machine Manager to configure the CSV cluster?
I installed the Remote Server Administration Tools on my Windows 7 Laptop and I manage the servers from it.

Hyper-V live migration does work witout the CSV feature...
Next question, I am running a trial version on DSS V6, I have 2 x 24TB licenses for the previous version, but needed to get Win2k8 up an running as a cluster, so plumped for the trial. I am awaiting my upgrade DOM's to be delivered soon, hopefully as I only have 28 days on the trial! The trial is running from two USB pen drives plugged into the back of the SAN's, how easy is it to upgrade the DOM's inside the SAN's, then migrate the settings over to the DOM's so I don't need the USB pen drives plugged in anymore?
Also, To-M, is the update available to the trial edition?
