Compatibilty with Dell hardware

We want to start with this system and buy this same machine within 6 months to create a HA solution.

The system will bind to our servers over iSCSI.

Is open-e compatibly with the hardware is specified above?
Is the hardware fast enough to create a HA solution?

It is very difficult to answer your question since we do not not the purpose of your server.
Hardware looks decent, although I imagine you would like to have some redundancy on RAID to keep your data safe in case of disk failure, then 2 disks will not get you desired performance probably, especially to feed those 2x10gbps NICs.

The list doesn't give the answer for the H700.

There is a total of 12 disk in this system
2x 300sas in raid 1
10x 2TB in raid 5/6/10 (will be deside after testen the solutions.)

Are there other people on the forum running Open-e currently on a H700 dell raid controller?


Another question. Where do you guys boot open-e from. USB or small Raid1?

And what if the USB crashes or get corrupt? Will the system continue working or will it stop?

Does it give an email when USB crashes or do you have to find out yourself if the USB is still working?

It is recommended to install DSS V6 to a small 2GB partition on the RAID, or a separate hard drive in the chassis.
Should this drive fail, the system will halt, but is easily reinstalled.

And it is possible to get notifications of any IO errors in the system.

I've installed open-e to a USB flash drive. If i disconnect the flashdrive i get no errors by mail. is it possible to change the error open-e has to mail?

No, this can not be changed.
FYI: we no longer recommend USB in case it a short term solution. They typically fail in about 3 years.
A RAID install is going to be your best solution. This way the controller will actually report I/O errors.

Is open-e able to be installed on the same Logical Volume as the datastore is? My raid controller can only create or remove raid array's. How can i create a 2GB partion on my RAID and install OPEN-E to it?

If open-e ins't able to be installed on the same Logical Volume we only can put in 2 disks for OS and use the rest of the Disk in another RAID array for datastore.

During RAID setup you can divide your physical drives in 2 volumes - one 2gb for DSS V6 and rest of it for volume group. I'm sure you will find all necessary information on how to do it in your controller's manual.

So lets say i put 12 2TB disk in my machine
Put al those disk in RAID6 (20TB Disk capacity)

I'm able to create a partion of 2GB voor OS and the rest of the 20478GB for storage?

I've never seen this option within an RAID controller. It would be nice if the H700 from dell is able to create this setup.
