License server not available?

Hello,

is it possible that the open-e DSS Lite licence server is not available?
I need to activate the DDS Lite 1TB again.

It fails with error:
Fehler!
Keine Verbindung zum Server.
bzw.
Error
Can't connect to Open-E server.

Network settings are correct!

Thanks for the quick reply.
Will keep checking over the weekend and report back if it starts working again!

FWIW, it was not working yesterday either (0900-1700hrs +11GMT)

The DSS Lite activation server will be closed until the next DSS Lite release.

All clients that have problems with DSS Lite are instructed to use the DSS Demo CD, until the next release planed for first quarter of 2009

Please note that DSS Demo CD has support for 16TB and users using more than 1TB will have problems changing back to DSS Lite as DSS Lite is only licensed for 1TB.
Please do not increase the storage capacity during the use of the DSS Demo CD.

I had to change some hardware components and need to re-activate DSS Lite. Unfortunately your license server is not responding. Am I doing something wrong?

Problems with activating DSS Lite

Dear Moderator,

can you please send me instructions on how i can get my copy of DSS activated as well ?? I had to re-install DSS Lite on the USB as the old USB memory stick seems to have gone bad.

Gives an "unknown error" when i try to activate again.

BTW, i have a registered copy of DSS Lite 1TB, but i read in the FAQ's about DSS Lite 2TB - so am i eligible to download and use this from some secrect location :)

I have a customer that I recommended Open-E DSS Lite (during the period 2TB = free).
They needed to reactivate late 2008, but that did not work. The recommended action was to use the demo cd (by reading the forums).
Now the trial has expired and all VM's on that SAN are down (iscsi disabled). Downloading a new trial would not work I guess (everything would be deleted?)

"Remote Support" is accessed via "Extended Tools" on the console. To get to it from the console, press "Ctrl-Alt-X". (Ctrl and Alt are the ones on the left side of the keyboard, not the right hand ones).

Just for the benefit of anyone else reading this post in the future. We were in a similar situation.

The important thing is not to panic.
So long as you do not modify the VolGroup (probably VG0) your data will be safe.

So contact support as above and they will help you out, but DON'T muck about with the vol groups and your data is as safe as it always was.

DSS Lite Activation Instructions

Todd,
After minor hardware configuration change, DSS-Lite (Jan 2008 release) is asking to activate server again, but activation is showing "Unknown Error" after activation attempt. Can you, please, provide me with instructions how to overcome this issue.

If this is the January version it could be the 2TB DSS Lite and we do not have this available. This ended very shortly and was introduced by the 1TB version. In other posts we recommend to download the DSS Demo-CD and backup your data this will give you 60 days of access.

Typically what I have seen from this error is usually from an incorrect user email account that was registered from the first stage and also that there was a small problem with the download. Sometimes this can be fixed by running the md5 check from the download that was provided and reformat the flash stick.

As I have said, this DSS lite server was working on for more than 8 month. I just have added new multiport NIC and now, due to hardware change server requires registration again. If I'm entering wrong User name/password combination, server gives just this particular reason for none activation. From my previous experience "Unknown Error" usually means that activation server is down. Any thoughts about?

Can you, please, check with Activation Server administrator if everything is running smoothly. Activation server host name perfectly resolvable and pingable from my DSS Lite server. Applicable TCP port on firewall is open. Below is part of past activation confirmation email with serial number.
Also, is there a possibility to reboot activation server?
