Was wondering if anyone had occasion to increase their storage on DSS by plugging in a JBOD box into a SAS expander controller card. Was curious as to whether you turned off the DSS first or just went in and plugged it in with the DSS active. Didn't know if there was a recommended procedure for that or not since I have never done it before and don't want to screw up my production box. :D
It should not screw it up. Your HBA/Raid card will need to detect it first. Configure the volume then you will probably need to rescan luns in Open-E. Though I don't recall if the rescan function works.
But when in doubt, shutting down is always a safe bet.
Open-E just announced that its having a webinar about expanding volumes with Areca and 3Ware controllers next Tuesday (8/17). Hopefully they'll cover this kind of stuff.
I tried this and it wouldn't detect my new volumes. I think I need to schedule a reboot.
