I have upgraded our 6Tb unit to 11Tb since there was only 55Gb left. First by extending the RAID array and using pv resize afterwards.
The manager now shows the unit (volume group) having 11Tb however I cannot use the extra 5Tb of storage since the slider won't go past the 55Gb mark, it seems the newly added space is seen by the volume group but cannot be used. I already have rebooted the system. Any clues on how to solve this problem?
Did the RAID complete the migration for the size? If so then please send in the logs to support@open-e.com so we can see what is happening. What RAID controller is it?
The raid controller is an ARC-1680 and the controllers reports complete on the array expansion moreover: the volume manager reports 11000Tb.
Try one more restart of the system then send in the logs if this capacity does not return properly.

we have the same issue with a 3Ware 9650-SE 12-port Controller. We had 6x1TB in a RAID 6, added 3x1TB, waited for the controller to finish the resize and then did the pv resize. Now i see 6519GB in the volume manager, but cannot assign the space to the existing logical drives nor can i create new drives - the slider is just fixed. Same after 2 reboots.
Is there any solution to this?
Send in a request to support@open-e.com with logs and and ask for remote support - i want them to look into this.
Any update on this one, as we have just seen the same thing on a LSI MegaRaid controller.
It took a couple of reboots (after the pv resize) just to get the new size to report correctly in Unit size, but as above posts, free space is still incorrect. I have submitted logs to support anyway (Ticket#1010974), this post is just say it's not a 3ware etc. Raid controller-specifc issue. Cheers.
I have the very same issue here.
A disk was added to the array and with some console command I was told to run, the total volume space reflects the new size. However the sum of the used and free space still add up only to the previous volume size.
Did you send in the log file to support and what RAID controller are you using.
No, 'cos meanwhile I had another problem with lost tape pools and that was a less important issue. I'll open a ticket for this issue together with log files.
Does anybody already know the solution for this issue?
I've just expanded my Areca 1222 array, succesfully resized the PV and rebooted.
The volume manager does show the correct, expanded, size, but the free space indicator is stuck at exactly the old volume size. :confused:
Is the migration complete with the Areca? If so try to reboot one more time, I have seen this happen sometimes. Let me know if that does the trick.

I will reboot one more time tomorrow - I had just started a full array check on the controller and I prefer to wait for that to be finished first.

This is what I've tried:
- Full raid array check
- Extra reboot
- Cold start
But still: no luck.
What eventually did the trick? Rerunning the PV resize command and an extra reboot!
Although I would be curious to know why it was necessary, I'm happy that it works.

Very rarely it happens but I have seen this with the Areca and you should only have to do this once or if it is still building or migrating it can be that as well.
After addeing six 1TB disk to a raid 5, with ten 1 TB disk from before, I am unable to expand logical volume to utilize the new free space.
I've run PV resize and rebooted several times, but I'm only allowed to create a new logical volume using the free space, not able to add the free space to the existing logical volume
Is the RAID migration of the new disks completed from the RAID controller? If it is verify the RAID health from the controller.
The disk is added to the array, I was told to run some console commands.
Just in case, here is the correct procedure when resizing RAID array in DSS V6:
1). Apply appropriate Storage extension Key or make sure that your current license key is valid also for the storage size after the LUN size extension,
2). Expand the LUN size using the H/W RAID tools(RAID migration)
3). Perform "Unit rescan" (DSS webgui -> CONFIGURATION ->volume manager -> Vol. groups)
4). PV Resize (DSS Console -> ctrl + alt + X -> 11. PV Resize)
5). Reboot
In case you are using trial version, you don't have to apply the storage extension key because trail version is for unlimited storage.

We made all like Thread #19. But after several reeboots we got no free Space in Volume Manager!!

Please be sure that the license for your storage capacity is not less than your storage size.
Also did your H/W RAID tool accept to expand the LUN size?
And in console mode, what does the system show you there?
Are you saying that your Areca is having the same issue? Try the PV-Resize from the Extended tools in the Console Screen enter CTRL + ALT + X then select PVresize.Quote:
