Thanks To-P and Al-S,
I ran another Volume System Check on the Areca Controller and it reported a read-error on one drive 7 times during the check. I replaced the disk with a fresh one and for now...

Hi,
our DSS6 server is behaving strangely in the past few weeks.
Its been running just fine for about 3 years - now its having problems - it hangs like once a week. No Ping, nothing. Only thing...
So I guess there is nothing we can do?
Hi,
We are running DSS V6 and we are also using FTP (TLS/SSL only).
When a user connects he gets a certificate (see schreenshot) that is way outdated.
Because of this the user cannot save the...
Hi,
Issue solved.
I removed all users and re-created them.. voilá :)
I guess some UID/GID mapping was incorrect.. but who knows..
Also big kudos to open-E Support in germany providing DSS...
Hi To-M
I havent received your email so far.
But I made a some further tests:
I added the user "test" and gave this user access to share 1
instantly the user also had access to share 2...
Hello Todd,
thank you for testing this!
Yes I do have "Users with password" enabled and yes I did use different systems for testing.
Also I did disable the "Force" option for testing - no...
Oh and I did NOT enable group access to either share!
Hi
I have a really simple setup with a open-E DSS box (Version: 5.0.DB49000000.3278):
2 SMB/AFP shares
2 Users
1 Group (users)
I set share 1 to be only accessable by user 1 and share 2...
I had the same problem some time ago.
After deleting all the old logs it was okay..
Unfortunately you loose all the old stats data - so you should do this only if there is no better way..
Hello masim,
I already posted everything here, if you need further information please specify what information you are looking for..
Also I did not intend to start a "open-E vs. EMC" war here...
I also really like the open-E solution. Thats why I posted this speed compasion in the first place :o
Several reasons:
Security (see: http://forum.open-e.com/showthread.php?t=1426 ) for example.
Secondly the fail-over limit of 4TB per target was very impractical in our environment.
Also we...
Hi,
we are currently switching from open-E DSS (v5) to an EMC Clariion AX4.
Currently both systems are running at the same time, so I was able to do some benchmarking.
To cut it short: open-E...
I have installed an "Endian Firewall" as a seperate virtual machine ( http://www.endian.com/en/community/ ) which NATs two ports to the private IPs of the DSS machines on port 443
Then I disabled...
Oh with the + i meant 8.3 or greater (if available until then).
As fas as I know there is no DRBD+ anymore, 8.3 has the source of DRBD+
I look forward to V6!
Whats the planned release date?...
I should read the manual more closely :p
I look forward to a DSS release that uses DRBD 8.3+
You should add this tho the "known issues" list of your releases so at least other people will not run into this problem as I did.
If I had known this it would have saved me a lot of work..
Okay I got the problem:
http://forum.open-e.com/showthread.php?t=864&page=4&highlight=4TB
I resized the disc to 7.2TB, so replication with the pretty old version of DRBD open-E is using will...
Hi
I just expanded an iSCSI file i/o volume. To be able to do this I first had to disable replication using the volume manager. After resizing (without initialisation of course, as I wanted to...
Hi Todd,
I think this is a good start.
FYI: I had failover disabled completely when I wanted to disable the NIC, it still said it would disable failover?
And yes, I will rent a "shared"...
I just checked. Unfortunately I cannot disable the NIC, the software sais it would first have to disable iSCSI failover. I dont get why, as this NIC is not used for iSCSI failover but well..
Looks...
I just went trough the second report I posted step by step and I noticed that Nessus reported the ports 6666 and 6667 to be webservers. These ports are usually used by IRC.
On port 6666 the...
