Has anyone tried DSS with OCZ Z-Drive R4 CM88 800GB PCI-E PCI-Express 2.0 x8 MLC Enterprise Solid State Disk?
I've been contemplating getting on, but I want to know if DSS will recognize it and...
When I run CFDisk on the Software installer I see:
/dev/sda Size: 4496813.98 Serial #: 63D327A7
So... it would seem to me, thats what would be present when I actually boot the DSS.
Right?
Anyone have any luck getting DSS to see the available disks to create volumes on using this RAID card?
I have 8x 750GB SATA disks in a RAID5... I was able to create a 2GB Primary partition using...
I managed to get ASM to connect to the card remotely.
I still don't understand how to get DSS to recognize the storage space... I go to Volume Manager in the DSS GUI and "No Units Found" No matter...
I have an Adaptec 5805 as well... I can't even get my DSS to recognize the disks so I can create a volume...
Is there some trick to getting the volumes created?
I know the RAID card is detected...
PM Sent. Let me know.
Not 100% sure, I know I used to get those before DSS v6 and also with the NetXen 10GB cards.
The upgrade to v6 and the intel 10gb happened at the same time, so not sure which fixed my problems.
...
I agree. Believe it or not... my machines have a great hardware backend and 32GB of RAM each, but File I/O just couldn't cut it.
I have a simple setup with 2 ESX servers and 2 DSS servers, each...
interesting... Those are the settings I use and all works for me. not sure why they wouldnt work for you. I was originally given those settings by an Open-E tech.
I switched to Block I/O...
Why would you have the volumes in seperate iSCSI Targets?
The way I have it setup and the most typical way to do it would be:
On the DSS - Target0 -> Contains LUNs for all 4 volumes. LUN IDs...
Block I/O or File I/O?
Did you apply those tuning options and retest?
If you read the release notes, Chelsio and Netxen are iffy choices for 10gbe NICs. I'm using intel based 2-port 10gig cards and they work great. I had major problems with NetXen cards which I was...
You say 15 meg/sec. How are you testing this? What are you using and what methods? Any Load during your tests? Some more details will allow some of us to better advise you what to look for.
I have...
Something major must have happened since 4221.
I have two DSS boxes, going from 4221 -> 4452, I had to revert to 4221, fully delete all volumes, fully delete all iSCSI targets, then upgrade, then...
Upgrade to 4452 worked perfectly when using Block I/O rather than File I/O...
Apparently VMWare is less picky with Block targets.
I was able to get to 4362 by removing all ESX Volumes, Deleting all Volumes from Volume Groups in DSSv6, recreating all volumes as Block I/O instead of File I/O and then representing those to ESX4.
...
So the prompt when creating a volume that says you guys highly recommend File I/O for VMWare is not correct based on current findings?
Hi! Yes, the LUNs were created originally on a DSSv6... version 3536 or something, don't quite remember.
All of the LUNs are visible and the volumes show up in ESX4 when I'm on 4221. As soon as I...
It appears to be related to the update for 4362
I tried to go from 4221 to 4362 and it broke again.
In the release notes for 4362 it states: "New version of iSCSI target architecture (SCST)"...
Reverted to: 6.0up14.8101.4221 64bit and did a config restore and it rebooted and all my LUNs returned.
How can I update to 4452 without losing all my LUNs again?
My ESX Servers can no longer connect and see the LUNs on the DSS...
Any ideas? I have rebooted the DSS twice and rescanned on ESX 15+ times.
I was already using SCST, so it's not a problem...
and here you can see the example of what the other device looks like.
This is what is represented from the DSS v6 with build 3537.

Here is a screenshot of the device properties, you can see the title of the window and then the name of the device in the red box below it. You can see the new "1-eui.00000" ID.

I upgraded from the original release of v6 last night with the new 3836 build.
When I went on my ESX hosts they could not find the LUNs that were there prior to the upgrade. However on the DSS it...
DSS6 works very well with vSphere4. I have been running solid on DSS6 for 2-3 weeks now, which I was not able to do with DSS5.
I still get connectivity drops on various LUNs under really high I/O...
