Hi Todd,
sorry - I might have make my point not clear enough. ;)
I don't use RAIDs that are directly connected to my DSS, but the DSS imports the FC LUNs from standalone RAID, like Infortrend...
Hi all,
all of my units on my Open-E filers consist of FC LUNs, where mostly 16x500 GB drives had been used in an external RAID. I have swapped out these 500GB drives with 1TB ones, since we had a...
802.3ad bonding has been discussed several times on this forum. As nsc said, you will not get any performance boost for a single host connection via 802.3ad, since the switch will just route all the...
802.3ad will give only redundancy and not more performance for a single connection. However, if you use 802.3ad with multiple hosts, you will probably gain some more performance, but for a single...
Hi Bernhard,
if you plan on connecting iSCSI targets directly to the clients, then be aware of the fact, that each client must connect to one single and disctinct iSCSI target. You cannot share...
Hi Bernhard,
if a AFP client connects to a AFP server, authentication and data transfer is handled by the AFP protocol. What renders Netatalk quite useless to me is the lack of EAs (Extended...
Simple answer is: no - you can't do that via snmp or any other method except the WebUI.
Unfortuanetly of course…

You didn't find that section, since this is not possbible with Open-E (any version). What type of NIC is that: onboard or seperate? Does it have an off-load engine? If not, you might want to look...
I guess so, since the source server's iSCSI volumes are mounted on production file servers. I checked with the sys stats but couldn't come up with anything significant.

Hi all,
I had a slightly longer maintenance this morning and when I brought my destination server back up, I took a look at the replication sync speeds. What I found were two jobs running at max....
I am getting 8 of these each day. That's why I posted a feature request a while ago, since planned interruptions of a volume replication isn't really an error, but necessary:

Hi,
today I tried to install Open-E DSS V6 Lite on my N5200Pro, wich it perfectly did, but to my surprise none of the 5 Seagate Barracuda ES.2's did start up.
So DSS V6 Lite basically shows no...
Hi,
I am planning on installing Open-E DSS V6 Lite on my Thecus N5200Pro. I have already verified that it will run fine and that it recognizes the hardware inside.
I will start out with a...
I second mhubert here. Being able to purchase annual support with upgrades would be a good thing to have in the arsenal of products. I bet that there're more then a handful of customers who would...
If iSCSI is used in file i/o mode (mostly for VMWare), then the system memory will be used as a cache. If iSCSI is used in block i/o mode, then the reads/writes go directly to the storage.

Hi,
which serial number are you referring to?

Your data will always be safe, since it's not stored on the USB DOM, but on the disks that build your storage.
There's absolutely no risk in performing the update.
Even if the update should fail,...
…eh no! I won't comment on that anymore. I have a feeling that this thread has moved far away from its topic.
I think it'd be better if you work with Todd on this, rather than having people...
Hold your horses… - I'd say. I am working as an admin in a midsized ads agency and we're running the complete Apple stack. I am using Open-E to provide my Xserves and Parallels VMs iSCSI devices that...
Well… seems that I misunderstood the concept of COW… :o , but I took a piece of paper and a pencil and worked it out.
So , since the snapshots are a view on the original LV, plus the list of...
Hi all,
I am trying to wrap my head around the implications of utilizing multiple concurrent snapshots of the same LV.
What I seem not to get from my searches, is how it really works, if you do...
According to Todd, DSS6 will ship in early July, but as always, don't rely too much on that. The release date of Atlanta, a special version of DSS5, had been posponed a couple of times, making it...
Oops… of course thats should read "isn't present".
Btw, it would be really nice if one could edit one's post afterwards…:D
Cheers,

I find that very confusing, too. From my own experience there're several iSCSI initiators that will not see any LUN of a target if LUN0 of that particular target is present.
GlobalSAN and Atto's...
Deleting a VG is possible through SSH, but I think SSH is not yet ready in the DSS6 Beta.
