You say it's not possible to make a direct backup from an iSCSI target.
But are there backup clients for the NAS environment for for example Comvault and/or...

Although the system does not have a cd romdrive, I'll apply for the demo CD in two weeks time!!
I'll be off on holidays next week:)

The question at hand is more: is it possible to re-use the hardware???

Everything is available: Xeon processor, memory, raid controllers, disks etc...

Since we are expanding, we are thinking of buying a couple of iSCSI boxes.
We already have 2 Sun StorEdge 5210 NAS devices...
Would it be possible to convert those to iSCSI using the Open-e DSS...
