I tried this approach and it does not work for me.
I can label new tapes on the same slot, but I can't restore from an "old" tape.
I swaped the tapes on the same slot, ejected the current and loaded the "old" one and then I've setup a restore task.
However, the restore task fails without even trying to use it. How can i tell DSS to "rescan" the tape so that it can read the label?
Anyway, is there some way I can just restore ANY tape (as long as it was written by open-e) without having that backup information on the local database.
Imagine a scenario where I have to restore a tape backed up by another open-e on another site.
I know DSS is not a backup server, it is a storage server that also does backups. But it was this feature that made me opt by buying an Open-e server and not a plain storage server and a backup server apart.
I think the internal backup feature is a major differenciator from other products, and I hope that in time it will be improved.![]()
