Thread: DSS, SMB and external LDAP with Mac

Default DSS, SMB and external LDAP with Mac

    Hello,

We have a (new) DSS that is successfully configured to authenticate via external LDAP and our Mac Leopard Server 10.5.5. All users and groups show correctly in the resources area, and I can successfully add user share access.

I can connect to these shares just fine via AFP on my Mac clients.

I cannot, however, connect to any share via SMB. On a windows machine, I keep getting an authentication box. On a Mac I seem to authenticate, I get a list of the shares, but when I select a share to mount I get a message "a volume failed to mount."

Any thoughts on why SMB would not work and AFP would in this scenario?

    Thank you.

    Dear jaremyd,

Have you tried to use "user+[Name]" when you mount?

    Thanks for the suggestion,

If I have a user whose username is test and full name is Test, would the syntax would be

    test+Test

    or

    test+[Test]

I have tried both ways and still get the same result.

    You are doing this:
    map network drive
    then type \\ipaddress\sharename
    Entering username and password.

    If this does not work
May want to try reconnecting to the external LDAP

Yes, I have tried to browse using \\ipaddress\sharename

The password box keeps coming up no matter what combination of username and password I put in (domain\username, etc)

I have reconnected to the external LDAP many times

    Thank you

    Hi jaremyd

Could you check the configuration on your LDAP Domain policy

Latest Mac/Windows implementations use different encryption algorithms than before. Under Windows Vista you can change the encryption settings in the registry like here http://forums.windowsvistamagazine.c...post/2062.aspx. Have you already tested this ?

Thanks for the tip, but we only use Mac OS X and XP, not Vista.
