Hello
Does anyone know if the QLogic QLE2460 will work in DSS?
The PCI-X version - QLA2460 - is listed as supported on the Product Compatibility.
Has anyone tried this card? It's PCI Express.
Thanks

Hey linux-storage
It works with DSS, I helped a buddy set it up.
We're successfully using a DSS server with a QLE2462, originally with PtP connections, now via FC switch.Originally Posted by linux-storage
Hello
I've installed a QLogic QLE2460 card in the machine.
At the terminal, I can access the QLogic SANsurfer program.
Display System Information --> Host Information gives me:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HBA Model QLE2460:
Port 1 WWPN 21-00-00-1B-32-0F-0F-F8 SN RFC0805K46543 (HBA 0) Loop down
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the SANsurfer program can see the card.
However, in Open-E, when I goto Setup --> Fibre Channel, I get:
Info
No Fibre Channel controllers found
How do I get Open-E to see the card?
I've got it working. I rebooted and the card is now visible in Open-E.
I've created an FC volume.
I've assigned this to a FC target.
From the client machine (which also has QLogic card) I run the CLI command to query the targets:
scli -T
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HBA Instance 0: QLE220 Port 1 WWPN 21-00-00-1B-32-12-3C-FD PortID 00-00-E8
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Path : 0
Target : 0
Device ID : N/A
Product Vendor : N/A
Product ID : N/A
Product Revision : N/A
Node Name : 20-00-00-1B-32-0F-0F-F8
Port Name : 21-00-00-1B-32-0F-0F-F8
Port ID : 00-00-EF
Product Type : Device
LUN Count(s) : 0
Status : Offline
------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see, my client does see the Open-E server, but can't see any LUNs.
Querying the LUNs:
scli -L 0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HBA Instance 0: QLE220 Port 1 WWPN 21-00-00-1B-32-12-3C-FD PortID 00-00-E8
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Target WWPN 21-00-00-1B-32-0F-0F-F8 PortID 00-00-EF
------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unable to query LUNs information of selected device!
Also I can no longer run the QLogic CLI on the Open-E server.
At the terminal, when I press CTRL-ALT-F I now get this:
1 QLogic Fibre Channel (no tool)
The too is now missing, how do I re-install it?
My problem is that the device is offline.
How do I make it online in Open-E?
What do you mean by "offline" - I'm irritated you want to make it online in the DSS, this is typically done at the initiator.Originally Posted by linux-storage
What OS does your initiator use? And are the tools you use up-to-date? Looking at the quoted output, a "QLE220" adapter is referenced - not the QLE2460.
We've had the problem (and incidentially again this Friday, though it is said to be fixed with the latest version of DSS) that the initiator gets to see no resources, if the DSS is rebooted while the initiator is online. Could this be the case here, too? The work-around is to either fully shut down the initiator (iirc, it had to be powered off so the FC card was offline) or to simply unplug the FC connection of the DSS during DSS reboot.
Another problem could be that you used a FC other than default, but have not added a WWPN to that group. Only the default group is open to any FC client.
If you just need to get the LUNs only at the initiator but cannot reboot the machine, there's a tool (for Linux OS) from QLogic to get newly detected FC LUNs online (ql-lun-state-online.sh).

Jens
Hello Jens
I'm not familiar with fibre channel connections. I'm not sure how to make it online at the client (initiator).
QLE220 adapter is used at the client. The QLE2460 adapter is used in the DSS server. The fact that the QLE220 adapter is not listed as supported is not relevant since I'm not using it in the DSS server.
I did try experimenting with creating difference FC groups, but currently my FC target volume is assigned to the default group.
I will look at the ql-lun-state-online.sh script.
Thanks
I now have it working.
It would appear the QLE220 card does not support point-to-point.
Thanks
Good to see you got it working.Originally Posted by linux-storage
Sorry that I got mixed up between client and SAN server side, you indeed never said you had QLE2460s at the client.
