DSS Replication- FC or Ethernet

Hi there

If we wanted to get 2 DSS servers and have them replicated for automatic failover, can the replication connection be fiber channel or does it have to be ethernet?

Only Ethernet, you will need 2 NIC's bonded for the Volume Replication and 1 or more for the Public or Virtual IP Address.

Thanks. Are there any plans to support FC for the replication link? The reason I ask is that if I'm using FC connections from my application servers to DSS and they are using FC to connect to DSS, and if that DSS is replicating to another DSS using ethernet, there might be some performance issues in terms of how quickly the second DSS box can replicate.

FC Replication is not yet scheduled (not for Q1 or Q2 of 09) and it is very time consuming to develop. I realize that 1GbE may not be enough speed per vs FC , we typically see 45MBps and some will install 10GbE directly connected to each other to eliminate the any performance issues.

10Gbe- ok, we can use that. Do you have a list of 10Gbe cards that's supported? Does DSS support the SuperMicro 10Gbe cards?

I believe the Supermicro is the Intel version but not sure, though we should be ok with it and if not we can provide an update for the driver. Additional list below for others that we support.
