Default Update Adaptec Controller Firmware from DSS

This *seems* like it should be possible. I created a small nas share which appears to be mounted on the system as /shares/misc. I can tell this by tests.log. I uploaded my firmware images and using the cli - i jumped into the adaptec command line utility and typed:

    romupdate 1 /shares/misc/as5124

That should be all there is to it. But the utility says the file does not exist. Am I missing something here?

I don't believe this can be done from the CLI. I believe you can update the firmware from the Adaptec Storage Manager running from a Windows system.

No. I believe you have to log into the cli as root for you to be able to do this.

why can I use the cli? if a limitation exists, its not a limitation of the adaptec utility..

Actually - what I meant to say was that you have to log into the ASM as root to get the option to update firmware.

I only use this on my XP system - admin level.

not sure what you mean. i have the asm running on a 2003 box and i'm logged in as Administrator. but the asm is client/server connection so the client connection to the asm server has to be done as root in order to get the ability to upgrade firmware.

i really should be able to perform the software update from the cli. but i suspect it may be a permission issue.

oh well - looks like i have to physically do this at the datacenter.. *sigh*

You should be able to do this from the ASM in the ROM Update wizard. This updates the BIOS and firmware codes on controller.

yep you were right. it's just that you have to be at the right place in the gui to get the option. only the top level object will reveal the rom image element.
