Thread: Error 17 when booting?

    Default Error 17 when booting?

    Hi,

I am just getting started with Open-E DSS.

I connected it for the first time and seemed to work fine but then I noticed on the website that the version running was old so I downloaded the latest one (b.3278), burned the iso and upgraded it using option 2 (factory defaults) as I got it from another person and wanted to start from scratch...

Upgrade was successfull but after that I am unable to boot. As soon as the BIOS finish with all the tests, etc. and tries to boot from the USB all I get is "Error 17", nothing else on the screen...

I did some googling and it seems to be related to Grub... like it is not finding the boot partition? no clue...

Any idea how can I solve this?

    Thank you,

    G

Download the Demo-CD if the below actions does not work. Then contact support@open-e.com and we will RMA a replacement out ASAP. Please provide the SN#, and all address information and phone. This is a very very rare incident but nothing to worry about as the Demo-CD will work in the mean time until you get your new module. Your data will be fine when replacing with the new module and removing the CD.

Download and Register the DSS Demo-CD

Also try with this from the Knowledge Base.

    http://kb.open-e.com/search/?s=1&q=s...d+no+usb+flash

    Symptom:

Monitor prompt a "System Corrupted No USB flash module has been found" error message.

    Problem:

Module is unable to boot from BIOS

    Solution:

Try disabling USB 2.0 on the motherboard BIOS.

Some motherboards will have the option to select USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 If this is the case select USB 1.1

If this does not work try the DOM in another USB port and or another server

Also try reflashing your DOM, To do this:

Download the latest release for the software that you have and burn it to a CD with the "write ISO image" option.

    Here is the link:

    http://www.open-e.com/account/products-and-updates/

Boot from the CD and choose option 1 "update with configuration changes saved"

Remove the CD and restart your server

Please make appropriate changes to your BIOS for the correct BOOT order.

If the error persist then download the Demo CD Here is the link:

    http://www.open-e.com/service-and-su...-cd-downloads/

Burn the ISO-file onto a CD. Please make sure that you choose the option "Burn ISO image" or similar (depending on your burning software). Install the CD-ROM as the Primary Master device by plugging the CD-connection into the IDE slot. Change the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM drive. Boot the system (the booting process may take several minutes).

    Then contact support@open-e.com
    All the best,

    Hi Todd,

Thanks for the Fast reply... I tried reflashing with the latest version again and now it seems to be working fine. Although it took very very long to boot, but I guess because it is the first time and is not configured yet...

Thanks a lot for the help,

    G
