FTP server speed

We have big problems with our dss servers using the ftp protocol. Data transfer speed is quite good but logging on and switching between directories (cd command) takes seconds. In order to solve this we tried almost any ftp option (delay engine off and so on) without any success.

Is this a general problem?

What is the FTP program that you are using? We have tested only the following below and is stated in our doc's.

Here is a list of the software which has been tested:

* CoreFTP (Windows),
* FileZilla (Windows),
* IgloFTP (Windows and Linux),
* SSLFTP (Linux console client).

Are there alot of directories or not that many?

He is correct. I just tested this with FileZilla and CuteFTP (Linux and Windows). I will ask engineers to look into this.
