Question Doc: Step-by-Step Guide to Synchronous Volume Replication with Failover a LAN

Ok, I have read and followed the instructions in document Open-E_DSS_Volume_Replication_with_Failover_over_a_LAN_ January_2009.pdf. It worked so far, but the document is ambiguous at some points and raised some questions.

The figure on page 8 shows 3 NICs where NIC eth2 is used for heartbeat. The following instructions only use 2 NICs.

I assumed that in the instructions eth0 is connected to the LAN to connect the iSCSI initiators and also used for replication data transfer. Is that correct? If so, does that mean that replication and iSCSI initiators share the bandwidth of this interface?

Is it possible to use dedicated NICs exclusively for data replication?

Can anyone shine a light on that?

    Thanks,
    Michael

We recommend that the Volume Replication be on a Bond with 2 NIC's and another NIC for the LAN iSCSI initiators. Also it is recommend to use a different NIC for the Data Replication as well for performance reasons unless you have very little amount of data needed for the Data Replication.
    All the best,
