Best performance: dynamic volume vs. volume group?

A customer of ours wants to have a separate (physical) volume (RAID 1 instead of the larger RAID 5 volume used for a volume group for file storage) to use for database processing. Is it faster to use a dynamic volume or a volume group for the second (hardware) RAID set?

dynamic volume is used like a VTL for Backup functions, you wont be able to use this to create Logical Volumes.
