    Default Atlanta Release

    Tom,

Can you take a few minutes to talk to us about Atlanta and what we can expect? I've seen the RCs on the ftp site for a while now. Have ween seen any performance increases where it would really count? What about resolving some issues like the IOATDMA issue for 64 and 32-bit installs where it really should be working?

    Thanks,

We are working to get this release out ASAP. Our hope is to release it this week and release notes provide what has been added. One notably improvement is when creating iSCSI Volumes it will create the Target for you if you select the option.

Some users are seeing performance improvements - see budys comments from this post.

Concerning the IOAT Intel drivers don't support I/O AT in the 32bit system any more, we don’t make the drivers. Now the new Atlanta release will default to 64bit mode so you should be able to use this feature. We only have in our labs the SSR212 systems to test with.

Will this be resolved with the new release?

    • MPIO mode for the QLOGIC HBA FC does not work in the DEFAULT kernel. Please switch to the BACKUP kernel to use this mode.

Qlogic does not have the new drivers for the latest kernel so we are not able to make the driver. They only had it for kernel 2.6.17 we are now 2.6.27. So we are waiting for them. If anyone has contacts to Qlogic please push them.

    Question

Is there still a limit of only one active snapshot per logical volume for the 64-bit kernel? We have a customer now that uses 3 active snapshots for each of their 4 logical volumes, rotating so that they can access data about one week old.

We will increase the number of Snapshots for 64bit mode to 10 this next release.

The total number of snapshots is dependent on the LVM, but 255 is a safe
number. There are, however, definite limitations as to the number of ACTIVE
    snapshots:

    32bit system:
    - 10 per LV
    - 20 per system

    64bit system:
    - 10 per LV
    - 20 per system

Tom, in this version the adaptec cli does not work. But the Adaptec Storage Manager does.
