Hallo,
I would like to install an Intel Modular Server in my company. The maximum storage (14 x 300 GB SAS) is just sufficient. What happens when I need more space??
Can I use the "mini x4 external SAS port" to plug in additional disks or do I need a storage system with a separate RAID controller to gain more storage?
Hi, we quote the Promise vTrack E610Ss (3U/16 drives) or E310Ss (2U/12 drive) units.
Just note that you can only "pass through" (map to a server slot) the Raid volumes you create - they can have no interaction with the RAID of the SM (Storage Module) at all. Just means running 2 diff. storage management interfaces.
The other solution is to add an external iSCSI solution (eg. DSS/iSCSI R3 running on an SSR212MC2/McKay Creek). There is normally plenty of ethernet bandwith in the IMS infrastructure to allow this (ie. with no/little effect on normal Lan traffic). In addition, this can provide storage for non-IMS servers. Cheers.
