Thread: Question of understanding

    Default Question of understanding

    Hi all,

please could someone help me and explain, how iSCSI and LUNs are working together (and with VMware ESX)

When I have 2 volumes, each in a seperate target, I give each its seperate LUN. That is clear. The LUN identifies the disk hardware.

With Open-E, I can assign multiple iSCSI volumes to one iSCSI target. For each assignement, I have the LUN input line in the GUI. Must I give the same LUN t o all volumes of the same target, because they represent one disk, or must I set different LUNs, as I had multiple targets?

    Thank you,

    Robert

You can do this in several ways depends on how you want to present it so each Target will have separate LUNs for management.

Link below provides best practices with VMware.
