Thread: Bonding interfaces for replication

    Default Bonding interfaces for replication

    Hi

I want to bond 2 or more NICs together and use them only for volume replication.
So i want a higher performance for replication.
I´ve tried several bond modes, but when i start the replication it only uses one NIC.
What i´ve to do that it uses 2 or more NICs for replication?

    Thanks

Try testing with lots of data.
with bonding you may not see any difference until you push lots of data
also what bonding method did you try ?

Now ive done it with a HP Procurve with LCAP on.
It uses all NICs connected to the LACP configured ports.
Direct NIC-to-NIC doesn´t work for me.

OK, ive checked it again, and it also doesn´t work.
It only uses 1 NIC (or on Gigabit/s) of the replication connection.
    What i´m doing wrong?
Is it even possible to run a volume replication over several NICs to get a higher speed than 1 Gb?

    There are lots of data.
There are 2 TB of data which have to be replicated.

Again, WHAT bonding method did you try? 802.3ad? I prefer 802.3ad for "Nic-to-Nic," as you call it.

Also, replication will be limited by the bandwidth allocated to the task when you create the task. It could be that just one replication task won't use both links. Try using two or more tasks and see how fast they sync up.

I´ve tried every bonding mode for testing purpose, but i never got more speed than 1 GBit/s.
I´ve two replication tasks, both set to a bandwith of 500 to not limit them.
When i only start one rep task, it uses 1 GBit/s, when i start both, they share the 1 GBit/s

bonding will not increase the speed

it makes for a wider pipe to push the data through

are you replicating everything everytime you sync? Or just the delta change? You dun need super high speed for delta change replication right?
