    Default snapshot performance penalty

    Hello there!

This is my first post, so please be gentle!

Were just about to setup a dell PE 2950 dual core server and PERC4 RAID controller and 8 x 73GB U320 disks in raid 10. This will run DSS 6 and provide NFS shares for VM storage and SMB shares for company file shares (via Win 2k8 active directory authentication).

Everything ive seen so far about Open-e has impressed me!

The guides on lobal backup and remote replication are very useful, but a question comes to mind:

If a snapshot is only needed during the replication and backup task execution, why not automatically remove the snapshot afterward to ensure peak performance with no snapshot penalty?

what is that penalty likely to be on our 250GB volume?

    Best regards

    AS

    Default Scrub that!

OK, I've followed the above mentioned guide and have watched the snapshot status under "tasks" and although the snapshot is defined previously, it appears the snapshot is only active during the backup and replication execution. Therefore it appears that there is no performance penalty for having snapshots defined other than when running snapshot dependent tasks.

Can anyone confirm this is the case?

    Best regards,

    AS
