Thread: Redundant DSS switch setup

    Default Redundant DSS switch setup

    Hi,

We are currently designing a new iSCSI storage platform based on Open-E DSS. We would like to use 2 DSS units using replication over a dedicated 10Gbit link between de DSS units.

On the "front" side of the DSS units we are still planning how to connect them to our storage switches. We are planning on using 2 seperate gigabit switches and connect both SAN's to both switches (so 2 uplinks per SAN, 1 to each switch). Our virtualisation software is XenServer and supports bonding towards our switches through the STP protocol.

Are there any other open-e users using the same setup? And how did you configure your switches? Did you use any special protocols?

We are planning a setup like mentioned here: http://forums.citrix.com/servlet/Jiv...-1375529-26686 XenServer%20Network%20Design-%20April11-2009.pdf

Only we are planning to use open-e instead of other SAN software.

    Thanks in advance,

    Gr,
    Sander

Why are you using 10G for replication? Seems like a waste. Those interfaces would be better served by providing the aggregate bandwidth needed by your Xen servers.

Lastly STP isn't used for bonding.
