Thread: How to restart 3DM2

    Default How to restart 3DM2

3DM2 crashed after sending a testmail. This is a known bug at 3ware, most CentOS and Debian systems have the same issue. But on those systems, I can easily restart 3DM2.

How can I restart 3DM2 on Open-E DSS? Is it possible to login on some kind of shell, with SSH?

Restarting the whole server is not an option. It is a production SAN.

    Thanks for your help

You can go into the Console from the DSS system and enter CTRL + ALT + R then you will select the 3Ware and be able to gain access into the controller and perform deeper functions.

Thanks, but when I do that, I see the 3ware CLI, from where I cannot restart 3DM2.

We dont have the 3Ware documentation for this in our manuals as this would be with 3Ware or in there manual. Your question was "... kind of shell, with SSH?" and this is the cli access to the 3Ware where you might find what your looking for.

I did a 3 second search on the net and found this - looks simple to me but you will have to read the rest.

With SSH access I could restart 3DM2 myself.

The advantage of 3DM2 is that it sends emails in case of RAID events (verify, sector repairs, defective disks). The CLI cannot send emails, so that's why I need to restart 3DM2.

    So did that link help?

No, I'm sorry. That's the manual for the CLI.

    I need to restart 3DM2.

Not sure how but I would think there might be a way to do it through the CLI or contact 3Ware to see if there is a command.

When it happens on other servers running Linux, we can always restart it with /etc/init.d/tdm2 restart. On Open-E we have no access to those commands.

I don't think 3DM2 can help this (well, they should fix the crash-bug), but if 3DM2 simply is not running, there should be a way to restart it.

    Strong agree. Same here.
