Thread: Only 2 TB with 6x 1 tb drives (raid5)

Default Only 2 TB with 6x 1 tb drives (raid5)

In order to keep up with the endless data created while animating I purchased some new drives for our NAS box. It used to run 5x 400 gig drives striped on raid 5. This has worked well for nearly 5 years now, so I optimistically built a new stripe with 6x 1tb drives hoping for 4tb's or more of storage but it's only given me 2tb. Does the box require a new module with a new version of open e or have I configured the srtipe incorrectly.

    Thanks

    Robert.

Check that you dont have the Auto Carving enabled, you should see the full usable amount to be used as a volume group.

Just to be clear here the NAS 2.0 has a 2TB Logical Volume limit but the Volume Group can be up to 16TB. So are you only seeing 2TB as the volume group or for the logical volume?

Also you never stated what is the RAID controller and model type.

In the html open e Disk manager it reads:

    "-- unit 0 --l-- unit size 2190.43 --l-- in use--"

in the html 3DM WARE 2/ unit info/ Controller id 2/ readout it shows:

    " --l--unit 0 --l-- RAID 5 --l-- 4.55tb --l-- OK"

The only other detail I can think of is that the stripe size was set to 64 kb, but I'm not sure if this would have made any difference.

I saw this KB from 3Ware and being that it is a 9500 series you may want to try to enable the Auto Carving to see if you will see the 2 seperate arrays then you can add them together in the disk manager. I was thinking there would be an option for LBA 64bit mode but not an expert on the old controllers.
