I'm using a Supermicro backplane. Again - the controller reports the drive at boot time and I can get to it with other operating systems so I know that the issue is within Open-e.

CORRECTION:
The controller is a AOC-SASLP-MV8, which is just the PCI-Express version of the aforementioned card.
