Best of luck to ya. I have been arguing with a number of VI problems. Though I don't really think Open-E is at fault. The biggest gotcha is the IET vs SCST change. If you update your Open-E and you can't see your volumes, that's it. Otherwise I can't think of any other problems offhand. We have been having all kinds of hell with our VI system.

Oracle was no help, Experts Exchange was no help, we just gave up and are now converting to VMWare. BTW, how many servers do you need? If you need 3 or less VMware has a small business bundle that's only like $1000. That's what we're converting to now. Good stuff

Yeah I'm still on VI too. No plans on moving to anything else besides Oracle VM 3.. if it ever make it out of the closet they are hiding it in.

The key with VI is to make sure that damn database is happy. It has to be defragged and cleaned quite frequently. I've never had any problems with it [Virtual Iron] other than database related ones....

As you mentioned the biggest change is IET/SCST. So I suggest you get some spare hardware and run the demo for a few weeks to months and make sure you don't have any problems.

VI has been good, but it is aging. I got a new server that has the Intel xeon 5600 based processors and I can't use a guest with more than 1 vCPU on it. Oracle would not support me on this at all.

How has your conversion to the small business bundle with vmware been? Any gotchas with vmware and/or open-e DSS that I need to be aware of?
