    Hello,

We have been running Open-E v6 FULL on our PowerEdge 2950 for a few years now, and it works just fine. I seem to remember that there is a single spare SATA socket on the motherboard, so Open-E can be installed on a DOM, leaving all you hard disk bays free for data storage.

We are using a PERC6 controller now with SATA and SAS drives. Previously we just used the onboard NON-RAID controller with SATA drives in software RAID, which also worked.

I have no experience with the Tape Drive, I'm afraid.

    Best regards

If it can go wrong, it generally will!

    Hi,

Thank you for the quick and helpful reply!
    Open-e will shiped on a pre-installed usb-dom?
On which port do you installed it - the internal sata port or using the external usb (eg. usb stick) ?

If I boot up the Open-e live system (not install), and the tape drive will display under tape device, can I assume that the tape is working ?

    Best,
    T.

    Hello techfreakz,

Do you have experience using a usb stick for open-e?
Because It seems to be a special issue to activate the usb-boot on a poweredge 2950.

Secondly: Do you have experience with the dell special drive bay style (satu) ?

    Best,
    T.

Default How Long to Label a Tape

    Hi Folks

I have the latest DSS V6 and a Dell 132T Power Vault tape library. I can see all of my tapes however when I try and label a tape the system seems to take a VERY long time and does ot attach the tapes to the backup pool

How long should this operation take? Its been over an hour and I am still seeing the message
"This function is not available, because a backup function is currently in use"

When you select Erase when creating a pool how long should that tape.

    Many thanks
    Dave
