Thread: Aggregated links + Fault Tolerance

Default Aggregated links + Fault Tolerance

    Hello,

I have a brand new NAS with:

    Model: Data Storage Software V6
    Version: 6.0up45.8101.4622 64bit
    Release date: 2010-07-26

I have 2 NICs on it: 1 with 2 ports and 1 with 4 ports.
That I would is 2 x 1Gb aggregated links which support fault tolerance, e.g. 1 aggregates 2 ports (bond with 802.3ad) of the first card and 1 aggregates 2 ports of the other card. Then 2 questions:

    1. How to make the second aggregate as a backup of the first one?
    2. Which IP I give to the 2nd aggregate knowing that I have only 1 subnet?

Or maybe I am completely wrong and you have a better idea.

Any help would be very appreciated,
    Thank you,
    Joan

Please get the latest version 4786.

Your ok with this bond but I would use a Balance rr for any of the Replications and the public or privet network for you iSCSI or NAS shares. Keep the same subnet if your replicating or use the WAN options.
    All the best,

    Hello To-M,

    thank you for reply again.
Sorry for the mistake, it IS the 4786 version.
That I do not understand is that we can make 802.3ad, balance-XX, ... only with ethX interfaces and not with bondX. However I would like to create "Fault Tolerance" between 2 bonds.
    How can I do that?

    Thank you,
    Joan

You can use the Balance rr with 2 dual nics and make 2 bonds.

    Dual NIC - 1

Eth 0 (part of Bond 0)

Eth 1 (part of Bond 1)

    Dual NIC - 2

Eth 0 (part of Bond 0)

Eth 1 (part of Bond 1)
    All the best,

Thank you for your response. unfortunately, balance-rr seems to be be incompatible with AFP and my network is essentially Mac one, I cannot disable this functionality.

    Have you got another idea?

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Joan

This is due to the Netatalk and we do not create the source code for this and will be fixed at a later date in one of our releases you can use the other bond modes that we provide as they are described in the manual or online help.
    All the best,

    Todd Maxwell
