Thread: PD's seen as n/w RAID, but Vol Mgr sees nothing

  1. #1

Default PD's seen as n/w RAID, but Vol Mgr sees nothing

    dss6 in eval mode

Intel ssr212mc2 with Intel PCI RAID card + battery backup.

    RAID/SCSI controllers

LSI Logic / Symbios Logic M1064E MegaRAID SAS (rev 04) (2 x 150 GB boot drives)

    Intel Corporation RAID Controller SRCSAS144E (12 x 2 TB )

12 x 2TB SATA disks, 11 in hardware RAID5 + 1 hot spare, setup in the CTL-G PCI RAID controller firmware.

(we'd like to install dss on the 2 x 150GB "boot" drives, but dss doesn't offer them at install time, so dss is installed on the RAID5.)

But the show stopper is that in the Web i/f:

    Setup : h/w raid units: LSI0 : LD0

shows PD0-PD10 with PD11 being hot spare.

There is column of check boxes with column "R" unchecked. We can't see what that R means in the docs. We check it and APPLY, but "the operation has failed".

unchecked, we go to Configuration:Vol Mgr and no units are visible.

    Thanks

    Default

We booted DSS from a USB drive, and now DSS lists the virtual disk of 18TB of RAID5 as Unit available for a Volume Group.

But we don't want to boot from USB, but from SSR212MC2 server's "boot drives", which are 2 x 150 GB drives in RAID1 using the mobo embedded RAID controller.

Installing DSS from the USB or CDROM, the installer shows only the 19TB RAID5 on the PCI HBA controller as install target, not the "boot drives" on the embedded controller.

Anybody know how to install and boot from the boot drive?
