I know the original post was over 6 months ago, but we're having exactly the same issues here. For us the issue was intermittent, too. Occasionally the VM would start fine, but more often than not it would lock at the BIOS screen, refusing to shut down and we would have to power-down the ESX host it was sitting on.
VMware are dead set against people using the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator within VMs as opposed to RDMs, so not being able to use RDMs is causing us a support issue.
