    Default Avstor NAS

We have an Avstor DSS8000 Data Storage Server which we are using as and SMB fileserver. It is running v5 software. The application we use for data processing needs to read a large 500GB lookup table. We run several workstations all accessing this file. This works fine on a Windows server, but when using the DSS only one workstation can access the file at a time. Is there any way we can have concurrent access to a single file on the DSS?

    Thanks

Is this with all files or just this file? Does the Database program have some locking or licensing? Can you test with DSS V6 with the trial version.

    Hi Todd,

All files I think, as this is due to the way the NAS shares files according to the application developer. This is from the application changelog:

"It has recently come to our attention that some users are electing to use NAS Devices (Network Attached Storage) to hold cygnus resources rather than a traditional network. There is nothing wrong with this approach but unfortunately cygnus file sharing does become an issue.
Cygnus uses standard Windows API files with various file open modes. Theses all appear to work under a Windows network but unfortunately not under a NAS Box environment.
The problem manifests itself when the second of two cygnus sessions attempts to access a resource in use by the first cygnus session. The error returned is a 5AA – Create a Virtual Memory Page error."

there are no licensing restrictions on access to these files.

I thought I was told by Avante that we couldn't upgrade our box beyond v5, but it would be good to learn otherwise.

Can you test with the DSS V6 and then submit the results to our support team by submitting a support ticket.
