Default Internal Tape backup will destroy replication?

    HI,

    My setup:
2 scheduled snapshots, every day (01:30 and 13:30)
    +
Internal replication, every hour, every day

Both works fine, now I want to setup a scheduled tape backup task:
    5 tapes (mo - fr.)
Every week (fr) I wanna make a full backup and the other ones should be differential.

    Regarding to this (open-e doc):
'It is not possible to perform data replication and backup at the same time. Backup has higher priority then data replication. When scheduled concurrently with backup and using snapshots from the same logical volume, data replication will be stopped. You will see a snapshot error in the Data replication status field, because snapshots cannot be used twice at the same time if they are set to the same logical volume. '

So, the worst case is that I lost one replication task, in my case one hour and two ours later the replication starts again with eg. more date to replicate? In my case a kind of cosmetic error, especially If schedule the tape backup at night?

Or does the tape backup does not affect/kill the replication if the tape backup using there own snapshots?

    Best,
    T.

Sharing of snapshots on the same LV, to multiple tasks is not possible.
So you should take care in your scheduling.

Basically you want to run one task at a time against the same snapshot. If backup is scheduled on the snapshot, it will take priority over vrep task on same snapshot.

    I do not share snapshots!
I have one for the 01:30, and one for the 13:30 as well as one for the replication task and now I plan another one or more for the tape backup.

    So, here my question again:

I will try to simplify this,

If you have a task for the Data Replication and for the Backup (though you know that the Backup will have higher priority as stated in the MANUAL!) then your Data Replication task will be halted until the next task is scheduled. Please do not use the same Snapshot for the Data Replication and the Backup - create a Snapshot for each.
    All the best,

    Thanks for clarifying!
