Default Installer Fails - boots from CD then gives a '#' prompt :-(

    Any clues welcome here.

I've sucesfully installed DSS6 on one machine but its refusing to install on another (identical) box.

These servers are SuperMicro based boxes with 24x1TB SATA disks on a 3Ware controller.

The controller is cnfigured with one RAID5 array and a 2GB boot partition.

On the failing machine, I can boot from external CD but after choosing the software installer option, I get "LOADING" showing in the bottom left corner of the screen for a while before it drops out to a blank black screen with a single '#' prompt.

Any idea why it should stop/fail ?

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Hi Andy,

So is this system having everything the same even the RAID controller? Is all firmware updated ? Seems strange that it would not work, try with USB instead of the CD-ROM and also try just booting with the USB to test first that it is a good install from the USB.
    All the best,

    Todd Maxwell

Talking Fixed by using USB memory stick instead of CD.

Strange but installing from USB stick worked fine....

The only difference between the two units was the external CD Rom drive I was using to do the install.

Glad to say that I'm up & running now :-)

    Cheers,

    Andy

This can sometimes be from a bad file download, or bad cd burn. However in your case it would seem you actually have a drive that cant read the data.

Glad you got working with the USB device, but you may still want to retire the cd drive.
