Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I am having problems then.

We are using a intel x530-2 card in the DSS server and this is connected to a powerconnect 6224 switch via a 10gb uplink port.

The switch is reporting that it is connected at 10gb and the light on the server card is indicating it is connected but open e is reporting "no cable"

I am a bit stumped as to where to start trouble shooting this, so if someone could tell me where to start I would much appreciate it.

Are you running the latest build from DSS V6 5087?
Is Firmware on the motherboard updated?

Are you sure that the uplink port is a real TCP port?

Some uplink ports use common ethernet physical connectors but run proprietary protocols... which is why you can't connect.

Which intel 10GB card is it:
82598EB
82599EB
82599ES

far as I can tell, that switch doesn't use any proprietary protocol on the 10GB module, but double check that too.

With a bit more research it turns out Intel card requires Intel SFP+ modules ( Not mentioned on the Dell web site) and will not work with the dell ones I have.

So I now have one on order that should sort it out but will keep you posted.

Good point about the uplink port but I have not found anything that would suggest a proprietary protocol. The module in the switch is a U691D SFP+ one.

I think you have gotten some things mixed-up.

The Dell switch supports stacking uplink, 10GB-CX4, 10GBase-T and 10GB-SPF+ modules. So there are options which are available.

As for the Intel card, there are several options. Intel has CX4, 10GBase-T and SPF+ server adapters. (I have several dual-port CX4 adapters).

So, you can easily mix these units to fit your needs.

It is now up and running on 10gb. It was just the SFP+ unit in the Intel card. I had a dell module in and now have an Intel module in and it is running as sweet as a nut.

Entirely my fault I thought a Dell SFP+ module would run in a Dell branded Intel card.
