Thread: Open-E with Xenserver Multipath Error

Default Open-E with Xenserver Multipath Error

    Hi Forum,

we are testing Open-E with iSCSI Failover and Multipathing and Citrix XenServer 5.6 FP1.

All is configured like shown in the webinar last week. Only additional iptable rules are set, so disable connections to the physical ip's of the storage server, so only iscsi traffic to the 2 virtual ip's is allowd. The multipath.conf is configured as shown.
All works like a charme with one exception.

The iSCSI multipath connections are not stable at all 3 XenServers. There are often (all 2-4 minutes) alerts, that only 1 path is active.

We use new HP Servers for storage and XenServer with 2x1GBit connection for every machine to 2 HP Switches (2810-24G).

What is the problem? Are there any hints, if we can tweak some more in the multipath.conf ?

    tia, Olaf

Anyway to test with a direct connection before using the MPIO?

Now can you try with MPIO directly.

    Hi Todd,
i think i solved that problem.
I carefully read the blogpost, explaining ping nodes. After that, i configured my virtual IP Addresses to be in seperate networks, and not in the same networks with the physical ip's.

    Now it works.
Thank you so much for that great product!

    Olaf
